SMS Delivers Guest Lecture on Modified Starch for Srinakharinwirot University’s Food Science Students

On April 22, 2025, Dr. Burachat Sritongtae, Food Innovation Manager at SMS, was invited as a guest speaker to deliver a special lecture for second-year students from the Faculty of Science, Food Science and Nutrition Program at Srinakharinwirot University, Ongkharak Campus. The session was held under the course “Food Additives and Chemicals,” recognizing SMS expertise in starch innovation and its applications in the food industry

In the morning session, students gained in-depth knowledge about modified tapioca starch as a food additive, with a focus on its role in enhancing food texture. 

In addition to food applications, students were also introduced to the use of starch in environmentally friendly solutions, including an overview of YES BIO. This starch-based barrier coating for packaging applications is a compostable alternative to plastic, replacing PE coating and helping to reduce single-use plastic waste.

The lecture was followed by an interactive workshop that deepened students’ understanding through real-world applications such as instant kaya filling and crispy coated nuts.
