SMS Earns Three Industrial Waste Management Awards on Its Journey to Zero Waste to Landfill

On 14 July, 2026, Siam Modified Starch Co., Ltd. (Buriram Branch) and Siam Quality Starch Co., Ltd. reaffirm their commitment to environmental responsibility and resource efficiency by participating in the "Industrial Waste Management Efficiency Enhancement toward Zero Waste to Landfill" project, organized by Thailand's Department of Industrial Works.

The initiative aims to strengthen industrial waste management through the 3Rs principles—Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle—while promoting the efficient use of resources in line with the Circular Economy concept.

Aligned with Thailand's Green Industry Policy and Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) Economy Model, The project encourages industries to maximize waste utilization, minimize the amount of waste requiring disposal, and enhance knowledge and best practices in industrial waste management.

As part of their ongoing sustainability efforts,  both companies continue to advance environmental stewardship while contributing to a greener and more sustainable future for Thailand.

Siam Modified Starch Co., Ltd. (Buriram)

Siam Modified Starch implemented the project "Reducing Scrap Starch Volume and Increasing Scrap Starch Value in the Drum Dry Process." By improving its production process to minimize scrap generation and introducing a grinding process to increase the value of scrap starch before sale, the company achieved significant results:

  • Reduced scrap starch generation by 30.35 tons per year, representing a 54.60% reduction compared to 2025.
  • Generated THB 245,160 per year in revenue from scrap starch sales—an increase of 3,433.61% compared to 2025—by increasing the selling price from THB 0.50/kg to THB 10.00/kg through value-added processing.
  • Achieved a payback period of only 0.12 years (approximately 1.5 months).

Siam Quality Starch Co., Ltd. (Chaiyaphum)

Siam Quality Starch carried out the project "Reducing Plastic Film Usage for Product Wrapping" by improving operational practices throughout the production process. The project focused on identifying the root causes of excessive plastic film consumption, optimizing wrapping methods, and improving material utilization efficiency. As a result, the company achieved:

  1. A 62% reduction in plastic film consumption, equivalent to approximately 9,219 kg per year.
  2. Annual cost savings of more than THB 1.74 million.
  3. A reduction of 22,122 kgCO₂e in greenhouse gas emissions per year.
  4. A payback period of only 0.27 years (approximately 3 months).
  5. Zero waste sent to landfill.

In recognition of these outstanding achievements, the two companies received three prestigious awards under the project:

  • 3Rs+ Sustainability Awards (Merit Level)
  • Zero Waste Achievement Awards
  • 3Rs Awards

These achievements reflect the companies' strong commitment to continuously improving waste management and resource efficiency while creating both environmental and economic value. Through these initiatives, our SMS continues to support the development of a Green Industry and contribute to Sustainable Development by embracing the principles of the Circular Economy.
