Bioplastic bags – The Sustainable Solution to Encounter Waste Crisis
On February 14th, 2023, Mr. Viboon Pruengprasert (the president of TBIA) sponsored Bioplastic Bags to Dr. Chadchart Sittipunt (the Governor of Bangkok) driving forward ‘Waste Separation Campaign’, having many bioplastics manufacturers as sponsors, including SMS Corporation.
This project is targeted to improve plastic waste and waste management in Bangkok. To overcome this menace, bioplastic products are vital to reducing plastic waste due to its faster degradation rate and circular model. Bioplastic bags are originally made from Thailand’s economic crops, such as tapioca and sugarcane, which are bio-based raw materials.
As a modified tapioca manufacturer, SMS Group proposed the value-added tapioca product ‘TAPIOPLAST® TPS’ – a functional bioplastic resin derived from natural cassava. TAPIOPLAST® TPS is used to produce various bioplastic products, including bioplastic bags, garbage bags, straws, food containers, and mulch film with full degradation within 4 months without leaving residue in the environment but circulating biomass back to nature.
Bioplastic bags are used in this campaign for organic waste to help prevent contamination with other waste, which can ease the waste management system. Using bioplastic bags to separate biological waste will be an important factor in reducing the amount of waste that goes to landfill, besides, organic waste and bioplastics can naturally be degradable to be organic fertilizer for greater use.
SMS Group, we commit to supporting and encouraging our society for sustainability development in every dimension through our innovation and expertise.
